Frequently Asked Questions
Who do you work with?
I work with adults, children, and couples who are ready to slow down, reconnect, and heal. Many of my clients are moving through transitions, untangling old patterns, or seeking more harmony in their relationships. I have a special heart for working with interracial couples, polyamorous partners, and neurodivergent clients.
Do you offer online therapy?
Yes. All of my sessions are offered through secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth, so you can connect from the comfort of your home anywhere in California.
How do I schedule a session?
You can reach me through my [contact page] or email me directly at maureenmclaughlintherapy@gmail.com. Once you reach out, we’ll set up a time and begin gently exploring what brought you here.
What is your fee?
My fee is $160 per session. I keep a limited number of sliding-scale spots to honor accessibility and care. If cost feels like a barrier, please reach out and we can explore options together.
Do you accept insurance?
I do not bill insurance directly. If you’d like, I can provide a superbill—a document you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
What can I expect in the first session?
The first session is a soft landing. We’ll spend time getting to know each other, talking about what’s bringing you in, and beginning to shape the path forward. It’s also your chance to feel into whether I’m the right therapist for you.
How long are sessions?
Most sessions are 50 minutes. For children and couples, session length may shift depending on what’s most supportive in the moment.
How will I know if therapy is right for me?
You don’t need to have it all figured out. If you’ve been feeling weighed down, stuck, or longing for more ease, therapy can be a place to breathe, untangle, and rediscover yourself. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit—therapy is about creating space for growth and healing.
What is your approach to therapy?
I bring a trauma-informed, relational approach that blends evidence-based tools with creativity, somatic coping skills, and a deep respect for your unique story. I often weave in art, grounding practices, and gentle exploration. My role is not to “fix” you, but to walk alongside you as you reconnect with your wholeness.
How can I prepare my child for therapy?
Children tend to do best when therapy feels natural and supportive. I encourage parents to introduce it gently—letting your child know this is a safe space to share feelings, play, and find new ways to handle challenges. Together, we’ll make sessions approachable and nourishing for them.
